1-2 years: the first steps
Good support for the foot is essential for muscle development and formation of the arch.
Dpam advises a pair of shoes which are:
- high with laces
- with slightly pronounced arches
- with slightly pronounced arches
- with a welded sole
3-7 years: exploring the world
Young children all like running, jumping and leaping into making new discoveries.
To keep a foot in the adventure, prefer shoes which are:
- with high uppers, recommended up to 4 years of age
- with Velcro, recommended for nursery school use
- of the size best suited to your child's feet
7-17 years: self-expression
Growing up means asserting your personality and differences.
That's why children feel the need to wear shoes of a style they like but which must be:
- tailored to your child's daily activities (skipping, football etc.)
- firm enough to hold their feet properly (trainers are not recommended for daily use)

IS YOUR CHILD IN THE RIGHT SHOES?
As a preference:
Allow 5 mm between the tip of the foot and the shoe. Children often have one foot longer than the other, so always choose the size of the longer foot.
To monitor:
For children under 2, it is important to check their shoe size every two months because feet grow from 3 to 5 cm (5-7 sizes) per year and around 1 cm per year until they stop growing (1.5 sizes)
To avoid:
Shoes must neither be tight nor touch the toe so as not to hinder growth. But caution: Too small a shoe is quite hard to detect since the child won't necessarily complain. Since children's feet are chubby, they feel any pain less intensely.
CARE: TIPS & TRICKS
Before applying any product, do not forget to clean your shoes with a cloth or soft brush and then:
For leather shoes:
- Using a cloth, apply polish of a suitable colour
- Allow the polish to soak into the leather for a few minutes
- Polish to a sheen with a soft cloth
For nubuck and split leather shoes:
- Clean the shoes with a brush or a special eraser
- Use a protective transparent waterproofing spray
- Occasionally, use a suitable colour spray to bring back brightness and new look!
For patent shoes:
- Apply a little cooking oil with a cloth or recycle your cleansing wipes. They'll shine!
For trainers:
- On the textile parts: spray a waterproofing and protective spray
- On leather or synthetic materials, apply a colourless polish then buff with a soft cloth
